v + attic setup

Currently have a sky dish and "pipe" the RF co-ax around my house to every room Sky dish to sky Box to router in attic then out all other rooms, giving me the ability to view cable on any TV.
The co -ax was cabling was built into the property as it is a new built.
I am going over to virginmedia and getting a V + Box. And wondering how I could set up a V+ BOX in the attic to do the same and enjoy High definition video output with HDMI.

Re: v + attic setup

how many feeds?

you need something like this http://www.onevideo.co.uk/13-hdmi-splitter-p-533.html but look at the price. I think its a bit much of a challenge as you would need massive hdmi cables. You may be better off getting more boxes and paying the extra monthly sub or keep sky on and just use V+ on your main screen

There is this but no cost I do not think its finacially viable

http://www.converters.tv/news/hdmi_t...output_61.html

http://www.montest.com/vopex-hdmi.html

Bottom link shows 14 foot so in theory you could piggy back with mutiple splitter boxes to cover the whole house but its gonna cost a hell of a lot of money

Re: v + attic setup

Are you asking whether you can have HD on all sets OR HD on the main set and standard def on the rest.

If it is the latter the you just connect up the V+ box as you have done with the sky box plus add a HDMI cable for the main set.

You will not be able to change channels in any of the 'slave' rooms or view on screen graphics such as the TV guide.

Re: v + attic setup

thank you for your replies.

The HDMI splitter option will still require me to use HDMI cable to get to the various rooms. which is not an option. As the V+ box will be in the attic where it will connect to the HDMI splitter. The output from the HDMI splitter will be via HDMI cables and I will still need to get these HDMI cables to all rooms.

Is what I suggest below possible to do:
The house already has co axial cable connected to every room from a router in the attic. So can I just get the virgin chaps to get the Television cable which for virgin is just one coaxial cable into the attic. In the attic I connect the virgin coaxial cable to the F140 amplifier which will split and output the signal to all the rooms via the coaxial cable. And I put the V+ box in the lounge instead of in the attic and take the coaxial output in the lounge and connect it to the V+ box. So all I have done in effect is used the existing coaxial cable in the house to extend the length of the transmission to the specified room. Than I setup the V + box as normal. And if I need to watch TV in another room will have to get another V+ box.
Would prefer to do this and would save on unneccessary drilling.

what is installed is F140 amplifier

Re: v + attic setup

The cable from the street side to the Set Top Box, whether it is a V or V+ type should not be routed via any form of amplifier. Ideally there would be no joints in the cable, and the ony junctions that are allowed, for splitters, need to be carefully assessed to minimise the effect on signal strength. The cable should also be of a good quality, not basic DIY standard, to avoid interference. Finally DIY installation of cables is not encouraged, and indeed is often a source of problems to you and your neighbour.

You can do what you like on the customer (output) side of the STB.

Re: v + attic setup

Have been looking at the coaxial cables in the house. Have realised that I can pull the existing cables through the walls in the house.

This now gives me two solutions.

Solution one:
Have cable from street side to attic. In attic have V + box than use V+ splitter and get a long HDMI cable
http://www.hdcable.co.uk/products/hd...FQKVMAodgUJ8YA
say 15m and tape it to the existing coaxial cable and pull it through.

Solution two:
Have the cable from street side to attic and get the virgin guy to give me an extra 8m length so that I can using the existing coaxial cable tunnel to pull the virgin cable through the lounge socket. my preferred option.

This would save on unneccessary drilling. Would the virgin media guy mind if I ask them to give me a bit of extra cabling so that I could get it to the lounge.
