I have had too much of this and I just give up

I used to be on Blueyonder 20Mb (and I have been with them for over 5 years) but over the past 18 months it has gone down hill. I cut my 20Mb down to 2Mb becuase at times I wasn't getting more than 2Mb out of it (even to their own FTP).

I called their help desk in timbuktu and was told that that was acceptable for a 20Mb line!

Anyway over the past few months I have been getting really bad packet loss

I have a few examples of other days on another forum but here are todays results

ping www.bbc.co.uk -t

So, I thought I would plug right into the modem and not use my router

ping www.bbc.co.uk

So, after them saying all about these speed tests sites not being right etc etc I thought I would ping their internl FTP server. This would prove that VM are right and that any issues anyone ever has is outside of their network!

errrr....no. So it just goes to show you that I still get loss to their internal FTP and I am plugged directly into the modem.

A traceroot shows me that its the first hop that is the issue

Pretty much the same as my situation mate, it sucks living in an oversubscribed area.
Perhaps they'll schedule a reseg for your area?

Re: I have had too much of this and I just give up

I have been told that "there are no plans for the needed relief work in your area" then they moved 4Mb to 10Mb and, well, you can imagine.

I am moving over to Sky BB as their 2Mb is "free" and not £18 a month and they will pay for my BT line install... whats the worst that could happen??

Re: I have had too much of this and I just give up

my ubr is UBR08

[edit]

cable.ubr08.know.blueyonder.co.uk

also over the past month I would say I have had no broadband to external sites twice, I could get to internal VM sites but not any other (today was one of these instances)

I get this...

Re: I have had too much of this and I just give up

Perhaps a tech who is at work and visiting here can have a look for you to see if any current issues, which will at least give you a better idea of what to do next.

Book a tech for the 4-7 slot. best thing that can happen is a tech is there when the problem starts - so he can verify it & you can go from there.

SkyBB may just be as bad.. depending on your distance from the exchange.
Then again atleast its not costing you anything to find out
