Number Static IP
Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain a numbered static IP address. (free if poss)
I intend to monitor by alarm remotely but it only can accept a 12 digit IP so places like Dyndns are no good.
Any ideas?

VM residential IP's don't tend to change that often so you should be able to use the IP you have without too much problem.
You can get Sticky IP's from VM but only with a business account, they can though change but only after a ubr resegment or similar.
All other dynamic2static services only deal with dns and do not give out IP's and the only way to get a static IP (apart from a local one) is via a host and then possibly a port forward to your home account...

If you are desperate enough for a static IP that you are willing to change ISP and can get Be*, have a look at their Be*Pro tariff. Up to 24Meg download, 1.3 Meg Upload and a free static IP for £18.99

Well I read on other threads that the IP addresses for VM don't change that much however mine seem to change every month sometimes twice a month, the problem with Be* is it's £22 pcm for the pro but it's adsl via BT line, which I don't have, and it's certainly not worth ordering a new line at £127 just to spend £22 for a static IP.
I really thought there'd be another way.

As it'd cost him £60 to install and would probably double his weekly expenditure I didn't think that it would fit in his FREE price range

do you have a device permanently connected? if not, getting a cheap router to keep connected should keep the IP for you. Only time in the 8 years or so with ntl/vm that my IP has changed have all been down to either the switch between STB/CM and leaving the router off for over a week

Yeah I'd prefer to pay FREE, but it's not worth spending anything on, more of a project than a requirement.
I have a router connected to my VM modem which is always on, dyndns configured on the router says IP address changed 8 days ago and 32 before that, so looks like I'll have to dial in and change the IP manually each time it changes.
