Re: Securing wi fi net work
1. Realise that you're never going to get a wireless connection completely secure
2. Change the default Admin password for the router, also change the username if it will let you
3. Change the SSID to something that doesn't identify you or the make/model of the router
4. Enable WPA wireless encryption and set it up with a long key, using mixed characters (upper case, lower case, numbers, special characters)
5. Enable MAC filtering
6. If you can be bothered with the extra administrative overheads, switch off DHCP and assign static IP addresses to all your devices

Re: Securing wi fi net work
That's excellent.....
What encryption did they have you use?
WEP, WPA?

Re: Securing wi fi net work
Switch to WPA if at all possible. Wep can be cracked in around 60 seconds.

Re: Securing wi fi net work
Not really.
The problem with WEP is that you feel like you've taken action to secure your network, so you feel like you're a little closer to being secure than you would be having no encryption at all.
This leads you to believe that you're closer to being ok than you were before you implemented it.
The reality is that you might just as well have taken the 30 seconds that it took you to set up WEP and done something more useful with the time, like maybe picking fluff out of your belly button.....
Seriously.....do yourself a favour.....upgrade to WPA2.

I second that...
It's just as simple as setting up WEP but more secure.
