Websites being blocked.

I usually go through a daily routine of visiting various websites, this morning however I can't seem to access 3 of my regular haunts.

For my sins I'm a West ham fan and the sites in question are all football related.

I can however access them through anonymouse.org which leads me to believe that VM is blocking them, is there a way to know if they are blocked and if so how to resolve such a block.

The sites are: http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed/?name=West+Ham+United

http://boards.footymad.net/mboard/fm...&fid=256&sty=2

http://www.westhamonline.net/forum.php

Thanks in advance.

Re: Websites being blocked.

Just tried for you and I can't access them either! (G73, Glasgow).

It would seem strange that all 3 sites are down for maintenance and even stranger that VM would block access to all 3 sites.

Re: Websites being blocked.

Thanks cerberus for trying them out.

I have managed to get them up via http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html which made me think it was a problem at VM's end, I've never had an issue with a blocked site before let alone 3, does anyone know if they usually lift such blocks after a set time etc.

hopefully they do and until then I'll just have to use anonymouse.

Re: Websites being blocked.

If it's of any help, I can't access:

http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed/?name=West+Ham+United
http://boards.footymad.net/mboard/fm...&fid=256&sty=2
http://www.westhamonline.net/forum.php

All report in Opera as blank pages, with no data transfer at all. I've not got a proxy set either.

http://www.iii.co.uk/markets/ loads however without a problem.

Using Opera browser 9.26, Firefox 2.0.0.14 and Internet Explorer 7.00.730.13 in LN5 (Lincolnshire).

Spoke to people at iii and they say ok their end but they've had quite a few Virgin customers reporting no access

Re: Websites being blocked.

Its a longshot but sounds exactly like the problem myself and others were having here http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...gin-media.html

so you could try setting your MTU's to 1492 and see if the websites spring back in to life. If so, let the techys on the newsgroups know

Re: Websites being blocked.

It is more than just Virgin. I'm on BT ISPyware and several sites are suffering problems whilst others are loading just fine. One of the sites downed is El Reg. If anything I'd say there is a serious issue with a core router somewhere.

I've also had problems off and on with both iii and El Reg this morning, and I'm using OpenDNS (on VM)

Re: Websites being blocked.

I'm in the office where we have our own caching name server and there's no DNS problems - first thing we checked. Lookups all fine. Traceroute shows no problems at LINX but not commonality after LINX for all the downed sites. How strange.

But that's because of website issues and not due to Virgin. The root of that forum is still reachable : http://boards.footymad.net/mboard/

LINX are currently having issues, if you can get to https://www.linx.net/pubtools/trafficstats.html you'll see.
