I've played both, if you can afford a real Les Paul then go for it. There are some good copies around, I had a Vintage 100 http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintageelectric.html which was very nice but like all Les Paul's it was very heavy (the reason I sold it).

Re: Anyone Here Ever Used A Gibson les Paul Or A Copy?

As DW says they're pretty heavy and they have a relatively wide neck compared with most popular fender type guitars (strat, jazzmaster, jag etc) so if you're used to playing one of these it can take a wee while to adjust. Being hardtail guitars and having body mounted humbucking pickups they also tend to have a richer, more resonant tone.

If it was a 53 then it would have been a gold top with the P90 pickups and old style bridge. They were actually pretty crap guitars by todays standards but as you say: worth a fortune, anything between £20-50K. Anything after 54 could have been one of several different models.

Re: Anyone Here Ever Used A Gibson les Paul Or A Copy?

Best bet is to get yourself to a shop that sells both, hook them up to an amp and have a play.

This will tell you a) which sound you prefer, and b) which feels 'right' for you.

I'd go for the LP every day of the week, but that's just personal taste you understand

Re: Anyone Here Ever Used A Gibson les Paul Or A Copy?

If you don't want to or can't shell out over/close to a grand for a new or used guitar in good nick these copies would be my picks

Epiphone Les Paul Custom £335 at GAK

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/...aul-custom/863

And at a slightly higher price point but a really stunning guitar (probably the best LP style guitar you can buy for under a grand). The ESP (LTD) EC1000 at £699
