Wirless Router Issues

Dear All,

We operate a hotel in the north of Scotland we recently have wireless being installed into the hotel although the Desktop PC's cabled directly into the router which works fine, there appears to be a problem with interference within the hotel with the Wireless Signal from the router.
We have changed the router several times and although the other systems in the hotel connect to the network wirelessly for around five minutes then the signal drops we cannot understand why or what is interfering with the setup. Due to the hotel being over three floors we installed a range extender which correctly says connected and is boosting the signal to and from the main hub.

Apart from this we have noticed that when the router is replaced each time the old one remains in the available networks for the wireless connections, sometime with full bars on the signal and sometimes without security enabled even though the router says that the security is enabled on the router setup screens.

The only thing that has changed in the building recently before everything went wrong with the wireless is the TV Ariel’s on the roof were switched on as they was not on before although we have tried switching the boxes off we still feel that they will still be broadcasting some sort of signal through them
Do you have any ideas on what we can try next?

P.S. The router used that all do the same thing as above are BT and Belkin Routers we are currently using a Belkin Router.

Best Regards

Re: Wirless Router Issues

Do you get the problem if you stay close to your wireless router?
I'm guessing your hotel was never built with wireless signals in mind and the thick walls are blocking the signal.
Might be worth looking at homeplug wireless extenders - see this earlier thread. Not cheap, but essentially you have extenders dotted around the hotel, eg one or two per floor, that connect to the central router via the electrics and gives you a stable wlan over the whole building.

Btw, to CF. Good rates for CF members?
