LinkSys WRT54GS with Virgin Broadband, help needed!
Hi guys, just a general question which is probably really simple but im no good at networking and the like!
I set up my router and everything works like a charm but there is one problem..when i switch on my computer and power up the router for the first time in the morning the internet is not automatically connected and so i have to go to the router settings page, fiddle about a bit and change the config from automatic DCHP to a different setting then back and then everything works fine??
Can somebody please help me with this as its a bit tedious, and I've tried on other forums but no one seems to reply!!
Thanks and hope to receive a reply soon!

Sounds like it's not picking up an IP address from the router. Have you tried a firmware update for the router?

Hi, If you switch on the router you should also power cycle the modem first, when they sync light is steady, then switch on the router?

Write down all the settings you have, SSID, security keys etc and retore the factory defaults of the router. Then put them back in.

I had the same problem, updated the firmware and also phoned Linksys the only way round was to leave the router powered on.

Right I'll try this and tell you how it goes! When you say 'restore the factory defaults' do you mean just do a hard reset by holding the reset button on the back?

Either that or do it in the firmware.

Yeh, right click your printer and 'share' it. Now add a printer from the laptop and search the network for the printer, job done. You will need the pc switched on for it to print. Make sure the workgroups are the same for the PC's too.

Re: LinkSys WRT54GS and Virgin Broadband, help needed!
If the printer is to connected your desktop and you want to share the printer then, you need to find the printer on the network from your laptop to install it.
On your laptop run the printer setup wizard for a network printer.Because your laptop is wireless should`nt be any different after you're connected to the router. The method to setup a printer on your laptop is exactly the same as the process to setup the printer on the desktop.
Of course thats Windows so i might have it wrong
