What I did to improve my broadband speed

...I like many, have been experiencing snail like speed. I found this:

http://www.virginmedia.com/help/20mb...timisation.php

The idea is to change some settings on the Ethernet card...I followed the instructions & boom, it worked wonders for me...try it.

Damn that's a shame.....I can understand the frustration of slow speeds as I hear customers complaining over the phone to us everyday

Re: What I did to improve my broadband speed

The autonegotiation thing is generally only of any help to people with crappy NICs. Good NICs and most onboard NICs should be just fine.

The other settings generally only need tweaking if the user thought it was a good idea to run some other "internet optimiser" tool, usually when on dialup. The right size for MTU is the default 1500.

cheers, had a quick look, but still does not say much about what happens if you uninstall it, I take it you are not guaranteed how bits are streamed?

Try doing a few speed tests as it is, then try uninstalling QoS, then redo them tests and see which is the best, and if it dont work as good when uninstalled, it is easy to re-install the QoS protocol again.

Re: What I did to improve my broadband speed

Not exactly an expert n the matter myself but i`ve removed it from Windows machines just to compare speeds and suchlike in the past.
Easy enough to stick back if it turns out to be preferable or required.

Somone wiser than me can surely tel you more ik

Re: What I did to improve my broadband speed

Uninstalling the QoS service doesnt really make a difference - this only starts to take effect when the connection (of the NIC) is near full capacity. A cable modem doesnt use anywhere near the full capacity of 100TX ethernet
