Connections to US sites extremely slow

First post here so hi. Just wondering if anyone could possible shed some light on a problem I've been having with my connection over the last few days.

Basically, everything has been fine up until roughly 3-4 days ago, when my speed to a lot of US sites has literally died. It has been gradually getting worse over those few days, up to the point it's at now, but all UK sites are perfectly fine.

I've e-mailed tech support with no reply as yet, so I'd just like to see if there are any steps I can take to check if it's a problem at my end, or in my area (I've checked the service status page and there's nothing listed on there), or a problem with VM.

I'm on the VM 20mbit Cable service, and I'm getting the same problems with speed whether I connect via a router (wireless or cable), direct to my modem, or through a different computer.

These are my traceroute results to www.bbc.co.uk:

Doesn't seem to be that bad here. VM do need to extend bandwidth providers though (for overseas)

Yeah it's a little better for me this morning (155ms pings and 600kbps to the same places that were giving me 185ms and <50kbps last night), but last week everything was absolutely fine. I'm pretty sure it's nothing I've done (otherwise everything would go slow, not just US sites, right?), and the VM tech support don't seem to care. I refuse to pay 25p per minute to call them though, since I'm pretty sure they won't be very helpful.

I have just spent 20 mins on to them and all they could do was read from a script. They started badly by telling me to reboot my set top box, I then spent 5 Min's telling them i had a cable modem. The outcome was i decided to call the call short as they had absolutely no sodding clue what they were talking about. Next call is to retentions to see if they can make any sense. I now have a level of service from VM lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut.

My speed's to the US Sites i use are up and down like a wotsits knickers at the moment.
