[Merged]20meg, Router and video streaming
I share my 20mb broadband from virgin media with 1 other desktop pc via a belkin G router - both PC's are connected via wires to this router. The problem is whenever watching streaming videos or music the buffering stops halfway through.
Is this beacuse this router (which was £39.99) is unsuitable for highspeed internet and if so, what router is best for 20MB broadband?

Re: What router suitable for 20mb broadband?
any router that has a 10/100 wan port will be suitable

Re: What router suitable for 20mb broadband?
Ok thats fair enough - i checked and my router does indfeed have 4 10/100 ethernet ports
the internet is running fine on both computers at the same time however live streaming of music and video is interrupted and stops halfway through and wont go any further
why would this be?
do i need to buy a faster router?

Re: What router suitable for 20mb broadband?
those are the LAN ports not the WAN port, the WAH port is where the lead from the modem plugs into the router, thats the internal speeds you will receive, what model router is it?
the streaming stopping could be many factors really

Its a belkin wireles G router model F5D7230-4
here is the spiel from belkin "802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Wireless G Router uses the wireless 54g 2.4GHz standard to offer you 400 feet of wireless coverage. "

Re: What router suitable for 20mb broadband?
if you arent using wireless then its irrelevant
it appears that it is 10/100 for the wan port, might need to check your network card settings to see what they are on

Re: What router suitable for 20mb broadband?
ok will do that - what should these be set to?
whenever i used the cable modem directly connected to either PC separately there was no streaming problems
however its only when i connected the router has this happened. this is why i thought there was something wrong with the router
is it possible to stream on 2 computers at the same time - maybe that was why me and my housemate were encountering problems?

If i have 20mb broadband directed to 2 pc's via a wired router, is it possible to stream video on both pc's at the same time?

Re: stream on 2 PC's at the same time?
i thought so too but every time i watch for example a video on youtube it will stop buffering suddenly halfway through or even sooner and i cant see the rest of it
what else could be the cause of this?

Re: [Merged]20meg, Router and video streaming
you know when i moved into my new house they only had the 2mb package - it took me and my housemate ages to work out how to split the internet effesctively over 2 computers. ehternet switches did not work from the virgin modem. (yes, we are very computer illiterate!)
however we decided shortly after that (maybe 3 weeks ago) to ring up and upgrade to 20mb - it might be the case this hasnt happened yet??
if we were on 2MB would that make a difference?

Re: [Merged]20meg, Router and video streaming
dual streaming from 2 meg might be a tad more tedious yes. What speed downloads do you get? You may be able to log into your modem to see what it's config is set to.
