Hi, basically when i turn on the pc i have to enable/disable my ethernet adaptor for the internet to kick in ... ive had this problem before but cant remember how i fixed it.
If it starts acting up again, you could try booting into "safe mode with networking" and if you manage to connect each time without having to reconnect the cable, then it maybe another piece of hardware conflicting with it or software that's recently been installed, even a virus etc.
I've noticed that recently (since a Windows Update), my desktop (XP Pro OEM) has been displaying a bubble saying Ethernet connected at 100Mbps when I boot my PC up. It (like the OP) is not everytime I boot up but I would go as far as saying about 7 times out of 10.
Perhaps a recent update is restarting the network connection on boot or something, yet some network cards are unable to renew the connection as quick as others sometimes?
