I need to seal up fan holes on a case

Hello.

A couple of years ago I built a pc for a friend. Although I advised her against it, she wanted a transparent acrylic case that she could fill full of leds.

Despite fearing for electrical interference, everything has been ok up until quite recently.

The case has at least 7 holes for fans. I only fitted one and covered it with a fan guard.

Over the course of the last two years, dust has gradually built up in the components and it now crashes with artifacts on the screen. I cleaned it out a while ago and it was fine but it has done the same again. So, I want to relocate the top fan to the front and add another one to the back. I also want to cover the case holes to minimise the entry of dust.

I don't want to add another 5 fans so can anyone suggest something to cover up the remaining holes?

I also need the specifications of the nuts and bolts required to attach further stuff to the case holes if possible.

Thanks very much.

Umm you need to draw air through the case to keep it cool, the only way you're going to stop the dirt from getting in is putting a filter at the entry and exit points and even then it won't be a total stop

Buying a new case is not an option.

I understand that I need to draw air through which is why I'm going to retain a fan at the front and probably put one in at the back.

What I'm saying is that will leave me with 5 fan holes that I don't want or need to fit fans too. I just want blanking plates or something like that.

Any suggestions?

I'd get a bit of tin foil or something. By the time your spent effort locating and buying blanking plates, you could have bought a new cheap case.

Some ventilation into a case, not fan assisted is good, and indeed essential if your case fan(s) are only extracting - the cool air has to get in somehow.

If dust really is an option look at where the computer is sited. Try and keep it out of dusty floor mounted corners of rooms. Periodically most computer cases need a good clean out of the accumulated dust, whatever standard the case.
