Wired Router with connection control, timed or manual.
I need a router that can be programed (timer)or controlled manualy from a Pc to disconnect any of the Pc's that are connected to it at the time .You could say just unplug the lead to that pc but the router is not going to be easy to get to . Is there anything out there that can do it ,thanks in advance.

Re: Wired Router with connection control, timed or manual.
Assuming you want to disconnect the computers to disconnect them from the Internet, you can set access controls in a lot of the newer Linksys routers that allow you to control which computers are allowed to access the Internet.
You could always set a rule up on that (either timed, or just turn it on/off at will) that prevents access to the Internet from all machines.
Can't think of a mechanism to disconnect from the router itself though. Thinking about it, this might be problematic if the computer controlling the router was also disconnected.....

Sorry if if I confused things ,I want to be able to tell the router which Pc's should have access to the internet and be able to also set it to disconnect them at a set time.

Yep, the Linksys ones that I've seen have the ability to do that.
You give the workstations a fixed IP address, then you can allocate rules for each machine (or groups of machines) that define what times/days they can/cannot access the internet.

Yep, the Linksys WRT54G's can do this, and it gets even better if they are running DD-WRT, as this allows a few more options as well (Which services to block, if i recall correctly).
Check eBay for them, they're cheap enough. I have one on there, 4days to go on it.

Nope, DD-WRT is completely free. Unless you want the special version which can limit bandwidth on a per user basis. (Which then costs 20euros)

So does that give me the ability to disconnect a port (pc) and set times for a for each port to be on or off ?

The main reason I am after this is I have teenagers in the house (3).Each room has its own network connection and the router will be in the loft .I want to be able to control their connections with the internet (on off or time ) on the router from my computer.
Yes please.....Thanks.

Re: Wired Router with connection control, timed or manual.
You don't really need any special software.
The bog-standard Linksys will do that anyway. Granted, the DD-WRT software provides you with additional functionality, but will you ever use it?

Re: Wired Router with connection control, timed or manual.
I think that the 'S' model has the 'Speed Booster' technology on it, which is only any good when combined with other 'Speed Booster' devices.
