Cable Modem Query

Hi All

Is it possible to use both the usb & Ethernet ports on my broadband cable modem to connect two pc's or do i require a separate hub.

you can only use the ethernet or the USB, but not both together. If switching connections, between the two, or of device connected, you must power off the modem, or it will not detect something has changed.

A hub will not work. The modem only knows how to speak to one device at a time. To connect more than one computer simultaneously to the internet via your cable mode, get a cable broadband router (not an ADSL router).

Hi Rob

First thanks for you help.

I have connected the 2pc's and the cable modem/router together one computer is vista and the other xp, vista works ok through the router but the win xp computer will not display the routers admin page or any websites but machine says local are connection is connected and I can ping the router ok, do you think the problem might be, I am think of reinstalling xp.
