Re: DHCP IP problem
Connection problem?, you got an error code mate?
Simple ones first.
Firewall, router and also you can stop and restart DHCP services.
net start dhcpserver
net stop dhcpserver
net pause dhcpserver
net continue dhcpserver
You can also perform these tasks at the netsh> command prompt or in a script using the Netsh commands for DHCP.
Let us know how you get on.

?
you mean it keeps giving you a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address problem ?.
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/87...l#post34302359 perhaps....
simplest thing go get and burn a slax liveCD and boot that to test if its really working for you, then take it from there... as per link.

Re: DHCP IP problem
As popper says, check ya IP. Are you getting a 169 IP?
Ipconfig/release this will release to 0.0.0.0
then do ipconfig/renew , do you get a error message then, and if so what is it?

Re: DHCP IP problem
That is odd, has the modem been in use before, or is it a new account?

Re: DHCP IP problem
Its a new modem [branded Virgin Media] but they had a NTL modem only last week then they moved house and were supplied with the new one.

Ran BB Medic and the only issue it had was with the DHCP IP.

Re: DHCP IP problem
do they still have the old one? slap it on the cable and it should work unless someones already removed its access, if nothing else its werth a try to at least get them some connection until the new ones sorted.
if the old ones an NTL 250 then the new one i assume is a VM 255 thats just the cost cut version of the NTL 250 with the USB port removed so why a new modem i wonder....

Re: DHCP IP problem
What do you get from ipconfig?
You must get something mate, 0.0.0.0, 192,169 or even a error message.

if they dont have the old one handy, unscrew the new ones coax feed, and power it up then the pc, check the IP is it now 192.168.100.*, yes?, the modems working and giveing out the right (local one off the CM's internal DHCP server)DHCP IP so you can get to http://192.168.100.1
theres a problem at Vm end, did they add the new modem MAC in to the sytem, ask CCare.

Re: DHCP IP problem
Ok i will give those a try and failing that call CC.Must admit that usually these things are so simple to install its the 1st time ive had trouble setting one up.
Sidenote:
There was a VM engineer in the street and i asked him about it.He said he had just been called out and there maybe a localized fault.
Fingers crossed.

New one?
What's the bet the modem hasn't been registered. I'd call technical support right now, unless you have fixed it of course.

Re: DHCP IP problem
I suggested they phone tech support to register the modem/mac address as when i tried they wouldn't speak to me as it isn't my account.Have to go around there again today and see if they have done so.Problem is they are not very tech minded and would be a bit baffled.
