Help please, network problems..

Hey, i have virgin media, and it works fine on this computer, but when i try to get my other computer working through a router it wont work on the other one..

I think its maybe something to do with DHCP or Virgin not supplying it an additional Network Address.

Answer in amateur words plz.... i dont know too much about networking

Re: Help please, network problems..

how have you got everything connected up?

you should have the cable modem connected to the router and then the other computers should connect to the router.

the router should then give out IP addresses to the computer to give them access to the internet.

it might also help to let us know what model router you have.

Are you shutting your cable modem down while you are connecting the router etc to it? You need to power it off, connect everything up, power up the modem, wait for lights to lock and settle, power up the router, wait for lights to lock and settle and then power up the pc.
