New Install..

Hey just have to say a big hello to all cableforum members , being reading this forum now for a month or so to get some sort of Idea how Virgin Media will suit me, I decided to take the plunge and ordered the TV Package (M) and Broadband (XL) on the 11th this month, I got told the installation would take place on the 20th between 1-6 and to my shock they turned up this morning at 10.30am so nice and early

The install was perfect it literally only took 1hr to install the points, they had to dig a lot of grass up and cut through some tree routes to lay the cable and I must say they made an excellent Job of this, the point was installed on the inside of the house again this was perfect no mess etc, tbh I was shocked at how smooth everything had gone.

I've only got 1 problem I am only receiving 2Mb instead of the 10Mb I ordered ? It was on offer @17.50 for the first 3mths, its kinda annoyingly slow coming from a 14Mbs Be* connection lol

Any suggestions before I phone the call enter up?

Re: New Install..

welcome, believe me you arent doing bad my 10 meg is running at less than half a meg in the evenings. i have contaced virgin 6 times and had different stories each time, the last guy, who seemed quite good, managed to give me half of my monthly subscription charge back. but bein a gamer i would prefer to get what i was paying for,
what area are you in? as they are allegedly doin upgrade work in quite a few areas, this is what he told me was the problem at the moment with mine.
have you done the speedtest at the top of the forum page as a lot of people say that speedtest is no the best one to do.
i would keep on the phone to them eventually you'll find a good one who'll help

Point your browser to http://root:root@192.168.100.1/

In the page that should open, click Login.

Browse to Operational Config and make sure you have these readings for 10meg. If they are different you have been put on the wrong package and need to phone in and get it put right.

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000

Re: New Install..

Probably just the incorrect speed was provisioned on the cable modem account - a quick call to customer services will normally do the trick. Check your cable modem settings first though, goto http://192.168.100.1 - have a look around in 'Operational Config' for something that says:

Quote:
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 2048000
If the number is as above, your on the 2Mb service - it should either be reading 10240000 (10Mb) or maybe 20480000 (20Mb; note extra 0) if your area has been upgraded already.
