Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

I'm thinking of getting one of these.
Anyone have any thoughts/comments on this piece of kit?

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Have the basic wireless version of the Netgear and have had no problems with it. Speeds are always good, wireless rarely fails to connect (if ever) and the networking is rock solid here. Nice price that, shame we haven't long bought this one lol
Edit: gets a good write up here:

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Cheers Paul. I hope that it works better than the Belkin print server that finally gave up the ghost today after a 2 years of p*ssing me about!

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Ok. Got this today. The install process is a bit impenetrable but having set up a printer router before I had a basic idea about what it needed to do to work. It's up and running (no 64bit support but I got round that) and seems rock solid. Def recommend this print router

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Spoke too soon.....
It works fine on xp home and xp 64
The problems started when Mandy got home with her lappy (xp pro 32)
I ran the netgear 'use the printer server' disk, all semed fine till I tried to print a test page and got pages of gobbldygook. I deleted all traces of HP printer drivers and re-installed the HP drivers, made sure it printed fine with a direct cabled connection (usb) and then ran the netgear router software again......it printed the first test page ok but then when I exited the software setup and re-ran the test page print I got the gobbldygook again!?
Anyone have any ideas? I have been at this for two hours

I'd have expected each PC to need it's own drivers, depending on the software running on the PC, i.e. 32 bit drivers on 32 bit OS, 64 bit on 64 bit OS.

Does each PC communicate to the print server individually i.e. the print server is in fact set to an IP port on each PC, or are you trying to share the printer on one PC. If the latter that might be the problem.

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Each PC is communicating individually, via the router. The print server has an ip addy and it's working fine on 2 of our machines but Mandys new xp pro lappy just prints cr*p. The printer is a HP laserjet 1012 and I'm beginning to wish we hadn't bought it!

Re: Netgear WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server

Sorted! The problem lay with the HP Laserjet 1012 drivers. I switched to a generic MS 1100 series driver (same as the one I'm using to get my XP64 machine to talk to my printer with) and all was fine
HP are really sh*t at bringing out drivers. They havn't updated them since about 2003 and have made no attempt to bring out 64 bit drivers for this printer, in spite of a lot of people begging for them all over the web! Still, at least I'm sorted here
