Help with Wireless connection

Hi,
Please can you offer some advice.
I need to get some pcguard off of my system, due to probs with Virgin trying to install them and now getting error message 2908, and dont know how to correct and add/remove not getting rid of them. On boot up these are present since virgin made hardware changes to my pc and now its mucked up.
They recommend i system restore to Saturday, but that is when our cousin installed our wireless netgear router to our desktop, laptop and xbox 360.
Now, if i do the restore, do i have to hardwire the router into the desktop again or will the router settings still be in there.I did keep a note of my security settings for my Netgear WPN 824. DO i have to install the installation disk again from scratch? Please can somebody offer some advice because really i dont know how to fix it, and not sure tech support can! Everything was fine until Monday when they were fiddling with things trying to get this activated on my pc.
My OS is XP SP2 and IE7.
I have some knowledge and think i can fix it with the correct help (in plain English of course!!)
This is soo frustrating, but they have said this needs to be put right because of the conflictions it would cause with AVG adaware and Spybot (currently using these and sticking to them now!!!)Also my desktop is already wireless enabled.
Many Thanks
Lorraine

Re: Help with Wireless connection

Hi,
I have managed to restore back to Saturday, but the problem is still there.
I have now system restored back to now and at least thankfully my router is still here.....
The problem i have now is removing these pc guard files from my start up files.
Can anybody please help me? How can i remove them? They cannot be removed from add/remove...it says broadband advisor does not exist, and then when i try to uninstall pcguard, the windows installer comes up starts the wizard a bit...thats it!This had happened to my system on Monday after the technical support told me to do all different things trying to get pc guard to work on my system. Now i cant get rid of it altogether, what a pain...
I am soo frustrated..please can somebody offer a bit of advice on how to solve this?
Thanks
Lorraine

Re: Help with Wireless connection

Have you ever used a utility called 'msconfig'? With this you can specify which programmes load at startup and it usually works very well. I stopped 'broadband medic' from NTL loading by unticking the check box. Go to Run, type msconfig. Go to Startup and you will see a list of everything that loads when you boot up. Untick the things you don't want, exit properly and then re-boot. The programmes are still on your HD, but not being loaded any more. BE CAREFUL! Make sure that you are unticking the right thing!

Re: Help with Wireless connection

Hi and Thanks for your reply.
I have used services.msc given to me by somebody else today.
PC Guard Firewall was running, which i stopped and disabled.
However, the problem still occurs.
I downloaded pcguard again to desktop, and thought if i try to install the program again then i could remove properly. Didnt work.
The message i got was 'Installation of Virgin Broadband Advisor has failed because the existing version failed to uninstall'.
Whatever they done on Monday and these hardware changes, seems to have stopped me doing anything with this pcguard thing.
I feel like shooting myself!!! LOL!!
I am stumped as to know what to do.
At present all i have running on the pc is AVF free and Adaware and SPybot S&D with no problems so far with these ones running. Its just getting rid of pcguard for good.
Thanks..
