Difference between WRT54GS and WRT54GS-UK?

Sorry newbie here, but what exactly is the difference between the two? Is it just the fact that one is the UK model?

I didn't think there was any difference between the two apart one from being the uk version, but Slyder is probably right.

Ok awesome, so I think I'll buy the UK one as my first ever router! Any experiences with this one? (Complete newbie to wireless stuff although I am an 'intermediate' i guess you can say with regular PC stuff)

I have the Linksys WRT54G router and I think it's great, so the one you're looking at should be even better because it has speedbooster.

Speedbooster is only of use if you have a Linksys speedbooster wireless adaptor.

OK so if I get the router and a laptop card (which one should I get I can't seem to find the matching one for this on the net?) then do I need anything else? What is the wireless adaptor...I think it's safe to say that I'm majorly confused here.

The wireless adaptor is only needed if you haven't got wireless on your laptop already.

Correct, the FCC has determined that Americans should only (legally) use 11 channels, whereas Europeans are legally allowed to use 13 channels - albeit using lower transmitted power (100 mW) in order to reduce interference.

Re: Difference between WRT54GS and WRT54GS-UK?

PC World have the WRT54GSUK on web offer price at the moment. It's only £41.00 - reserve and collect. I have one, and find it excellent.
One laptop uses the USB adaptor - the other is a newer model and has built in wifi.
The router is upstairs, and the signal quality over the whole house is exellent. I use the printer on the desktop through the wireless connection, and also a shared drive for both laptops.
I've also used the laptop at the end of the garden, and even at the neighbour's house next door, and the neighbour's over the road.
Just a word of warning - if you do connect this - then you need to re-register with NTL

Dont apply US firmwares to the UK one. I did that in the past and it made it pretty unstable

Dont you only need to do that if your BB is through a STB? I dont remember having to do this with mine? But it was a long time ago so i would have forgotten by now.

Re: Difference between WRT54GS and WRT54GS-UK?

Think you might be right... don't remember having to do it with SACM either.

If you are using a STB, then you could always just clone the MAC address of the STB in the router's config pages, to avoid having to re-register.
