Windows again
I'm not starting a windows V mac / linux blah blah blah thread.
As you have prolly guessed I am vexed with windows AGAIN.
BUT Instead of the usual linux is better blah blah blah crap ... I ask this simple question.
My thoughts
" An operating system is supposed to make your life easy and bring some form of quality into your life - not to be a hinderance. "
" An OS should improve your productivity "
" Therefore your overall net productivity and improvements to your quality of life are determined by the churn rate at which your effort (input / learning of the OS) relates to your own personal success. "
Simple Question
Highlight where your OS of choice has improved your quality of life and overall how much effort has it taken for you to get there ? Has it been worth it ?

Everything you would ever want is easy to find. Its simple to install and use, configure etc. It takes me little time to do what I want. Ive tried other OS's and never got as far as I have with this one. I use Windows.

Simple answer: I haven't touched a typewriter in 20 years. Yes, it was definitely worth it...

When implementing Windows into an 400 seat environment in the early 90's, replacing all the different DOS versions, it made my life much, much simpler.

Windows has got much better though its history, I've used DOS 3.11, Win 95, Win 98SE, XP SP2 Pro and the Vista Beta. Since installing XP on my main machine I've not seen a BSOD, I no longer need to know what an IRQ is/does and how to increase the stack. So my productivity has improved, I'm able to do things in minutes which used to take me days (although I do miss the smell of the chemicals in my Darkroom, give me Photoshop any day).
If only they could have got the Amiga OS onto the faster CPU's...

going from a work setup which used DOS versions of WordPerfect 5.1 & Lotus123 to my first taste of Windows 3.0 using Write & Excel, at home, was quite a change - for example you only had to install one printer driver, not one for each application

I remember my Amiga 1200, it was really fast to me My first "computer" was an Amiga 500. I used Workbench 3.0 for many many years until I got my own PC with Windows.
They should rewrite the core so it runs on standard x86 processors

Being a microsoft engineer has seen my salary more than treble in 6 years, that has improved my quality of life
Effort to get there? Had to put up with some crappy managers on the way.
Technology wise, effort hasn't been much, it's such an easy OS to use and get on with.
