Since it's an Alpha 1 release I wouldn't hold my breath on a release date. I also wouldn't install it on anything other than a test machine or a PC you don't mind re-installing your software onto.
Oh and I would get it from the source as well

I understand it is the newer version but what are Mozilla improving on this new alpha version?

Looking good so far! I posting on it now, faster and smoother on a mac thats for sure. Also spell checking works better.
