Modem Probelms On 10mb

NTL came out and changed my modem to ntl 250 and said I have a high downstream signal rate and aslo added a filter. Then my new modem would disconnects more often than it reconnects.

So i removed the filter and it seems ok. Can someone check the settings below?

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 0
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : 12.7 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 39.6 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 4
Upstream Frequency : 25584000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 48.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

looks a little high and may cause problems. I've had mine upto -11dBmV before without problems.

It's always best to ignore all the stuff in the modem log as it's common to see that, and i get it all the time.

Re: Modem Probelms On 10mb

Well when I had my filter on it caused more disconnections and power level was 3.6dbmv since I have taken it off its been running fine.

Re: Modem Probelms On 10mb

Leave it as it is for a while and maybe try downloading some very large files to see if you max out your connection and it doesn't disconnect.

The engineer was right that your downstream receive power level was high. It's strange that removing the filter gives a more stable connection, as 3.6dBmV is nearer the ideal value than 12.7dBmV.

Re: Modem Probelms On 10mb

His downstream modulation is QAM256

Suggested operational limits -6 to 15dBmV

Re: Modem Probelms On 10mb

When you say ntl fitted a filter - I assume this was an attenuator? Should be a forward pass Attenuator which only reduces the high frequency downstram signal, not the lower frequency upstream, if an old fashioned bidirectional one it would push the upstream up uncomfortably high IMHO.
