Online Banking

I use online banking with Standard Life Bank - for the last 3 days I have been experiencing difficulties (it hangs on login and by the time it's gone thru to my account I can't then access any of the functions because it's timed out).

I haven't changed any settings on my pc, nor installed any additional software. It does the same on the other 2 pc on my home network.

It works fine at my sister's (non-Telewest) and when I call their helpline they just tell me they have no other reports of problems. I've had this bank account for about 5+ years and never experienced any issues before.

I also notice that a new account I recently opened with Nationwide there are some functions I seem unable to access, yet they work fine when I connect from work (non-Telewest) - eg setting up standing orders.

Does anyone know of anything that could be causing these issues or have any suggestions how I can resolve it?

Re: Online Banking

Can you try the site in another browser first :

Like say mozilla firefox ?

(the reason why is say that maybe your instance of Internet Explorer is polluted or maybe us web developers have not coded up the site properly lol)

But I've done this on 3 separate pc on my home network - are you suggesting all 3 installations could have become corrupted at the same time?

Re: Online Banking

No, just that the site may have had a change of scripting. Hence whichever browsers you're using could be displaying/doing things wrong.

No just beginning diagonsis 1 step at a time the problem could be one of many you see.

Browser compatibility is looking more unlikely if you say that all 3 machines exhibit the same problem,

Give firefox a try anyway otherwise have you installed a new router/firewall ?

When you say the connection hangs maybe the bank is trying to connect to you for authenticate (bypass man in middle). If Standard Life is doing this then hats off I didn't think they had it in them.

To test this connect a PC DIRECTLY to he cable modem/internet and make sure you have an external IP address : connect to bank see if it works.

(oh yeh forgot to say that when you do this turn your firewall off)

Good luck but I don't think it'll help - What about the firewall/router ? Have you connected to the bank ok previously with your current home network architecture ie same firewall and router setup ?

Ooops sorry Popper I thought that was MrGold who wrote that DOH !

Seems to be a common solution - I wonder what the problem is?

Seems a bit extreme, sort of amputation as a solution for a splinter in your finger.

yes, and remember they dont need to install the thing to test it or effect the installed windows OS in any way

slax is good small one to go for for instance, you can even make your custom ISO's inside windows if you like.

Re: Online Banking

Or just try to fix the problem? Some of you guys solutions to first line fault-finding are "innovative" - eg, I have a steering wobble in my car, what should I do? Have you tried changing the engine?

Any hoo,
Have you recently installed anything on your computer(s)? IE7, Messenger Live, etc?
Do you have all the latest patches on your computers?
Has anything changed on your router?
Have you checked your firewall rules?
Have you run anti-spyware/anti-virus recently, to make sure nothing "dodgy" is on your computer
