D-Link DSL-G604T Wire connection problem

Dear all,

I am new to this forum~ So please bare with me if I am asking a stupid question!

I have recently moved into a rented house and it comes with free ADSL connection.

The connection goes through a D-Link DSL-G604T ADSL router and there is a WEP code provided by the landlord, so browsing the internet with wireless is not a problem at all.

However, I do want to connect a computer with wire to the router directly. But it doesn't work. So I guess the "connection by cable" option is disabled by the router.

The setup page of the router is password protected and it is not the original password, and the landlord is refusing to give me the password of the router.

I am not trying to mess up his router or something. All I want is to connect one of my computer with an actual cable instead of wireless.

Is there a way round this?

Thanks for helping guys!

Re: D-Link DSL-G604T Wire connection problem

Not sure that the wired connections can be disabled...

Good article here troubleshooting a wired connection that doesn't work when a wireless one does. Substitute the router's IP address for the one given obviously.

Did you turn off the PC & router before you connected by wire? The turned the router on first followed by the PC?

Re: D-Link DSL-G604T Wire connection problem

I've just looked in the router setup page of my G604T and I cant find an option to switch off the wired ports. Saying that I'm not sure if you can lock out by restricting IP's in the settings though.
