[merged] Belkin Home Network - lag

My two Pcs' are setup over network Primary PC connects to Belkin 54g router and Second PC through wireless on usb 11mbps adaptor. lately my second pc user and i have been slowing up alot when both on Pcs, we used to be able to play games at same time and not have much to any lag. but now we get lag just browsing the web on either side.

I haven't changed any settings on router for long time and wondering if anyone could recommend performance tips or solution to why Pcs are lagging up.

Note; we used to play COD alot online at same time and never lagged this has only happened recently.

I'd check there is nothing grinding away in your system such as spyware.

If you havent done so for a while, do a defrag and similar utilities on your PCs.

yeah did defrag on both and checked for spyware, clean. haven't clue

You could have a look at pings, or traceroutes to some well known sites both having your router connected, or with PC wired direct to modem/STB. See if there is a difference. That at least would identify if the router might be having any difference.

Might be worth changing proxy too?

Change your proxy via your web browser (tools -> internet options -> LAN Settings -> Proxy Server in Internet Explorer, or Tools -> Preferences -> General -> Connection in Firefox)... but bear in mind that pings don't use standard TCP/IP and UDP/IP protocols, and instead rely on the ICMP protocol. As normal proxy servers only support TCP/IP and UDP/IP services and do not support ICMP, it is irrelevant which proxy server you configure if you are only sending ping requests.

the only change in settings ive made is i changed router channel and ssid other day.

for connecting my second pc to network i use a 11mbps intel anypoint usb adaptor. My router is belkin 54g. lately both PCs are getting heavy lag. i ve tested for spyware etc nothing. would wireless adaptor cause slow speeds.

The wireless adaptor itself, if running slow won't affect other parts of the network that are wired. If wireless itself is slow, it will just be that PC that would struggle.

Have a look at the upload traffic settings on the router. If your are saturating that, the speeds overall will drop.
