I've just upgraded from wired(befSR41) to wireless(wrt54G)
Got it all working wired & wireless except I can't get the wireless security stuff working
On Router
Entered a new SSID
I've selected WEP,
left default Transmit key at 1
WEP encrypt set to 64 bit
Entered a passphrase, pressed generate key, get 5 hex pairs in each key
save that on router
on XP notebook
Wireless network is detected- shows as "security enabled wirelss network"
using Wireless Network setup wizard as follows
select "set up a new wireless network"
enter SSID same as on router
checked "Manually assign a network key"
when asked to enter WEP key I enter the 5 Hex pairs from Key 1 on the router screen
Finish the wizard but it wont connect (although its set to automatic connect) - still says requires a network key
Only set up one other wireless network and thats all I had to do before
note : I know 64 bit WEP may not be ideal but lets walk before we can run
When I set up WEP, I made sure the insecure network SSID was added to my preferred networks list, generated the key and cut/pasted into the advanced properties of the Wireless network.
I've since done an update driver (in device manager) on the wireless card in laptop, that found an update, and it now works.
Slightly odd, since I only installed card in laptop yesterday, and Xp accepted it OK and found a driver for it OK then
