Can't access Public IP from Internet.

Apologies if already asked, I have checked but can't see anything referring to this issue.

I have recently got some IP Camera's and set them up, I can use them from home but want to connect in to them from other locations. I have used www.dyndns.org to attach an URL to my IP Address and keep it upto date using the utils provided off their site, e.g. www.fred.homedns.org points to my public IP (81.103.xx.xx) However I cannot seem to connect to it remotely.

I have tried putting a camera in the DMZ on my router, no joy and also used Virtual Servers (opened ports) e.g. 192.168.0.xx on port 8081 etc..

Router is a Belkin Wireless (54G) can't remeber model as at work.

Any help very much appreciated.

First thing to the site.

Running a router will that not stop you remotely seeing the camera? firewall on router.

Re: Can't access Public IP from Internet.

Not if he forwards the port(s).
I would have thought that yourIP.dyndns.org:8081 would have worked but you have to account for a firewall where you are trying to access your home network.
Port 80 and 8080 are usually open where people work if that's any help.

Re: Can't access Public IP from Internet.

A thought..! Would the fact that the MAC Address of my router has changed cause an issue, as in when I first registered with NTL before I had a router the only PC I could use was the one I registered with, down to MAC address..! I then got a router and had to Clone the PC's MAC Address so I could connect to that router.

I have since changed the router and forgot this option as all was working OK, could this be the issue as MAC is now not the cloned one, if that makes any sense at all. Everything is working OK apart from connecting back from remote location.

Cheers

Ignore my last comment about Cloning MAC Addresses as I have found out it is no longer an issue. Ta ;-)

If the Cameras are in the DMZ on the router then this will not be an issue. The router's firewall will only be gaurding anything within the router's protected zone (ie. not in the DMZ).

Re: Can't access Public IP from Internet.

FIXED it, yeha...!!!!!!!

It was www.dyndns.com, they kept mucking up my IP, changed to www.NO-IP.com and all now cool. Used Virtual Servers optoin on Router and port 8080 and 8081 as have two cameras. Only thing I did have to do to get it to work from work PC was to add an entry into HOSTS as well.

Cheers and thanks for all the fish.
