Packet Loss CB4 Area

1 - Im getting a 25% packet loss when i ping that started about 1 week ago. I know Ping is not true reflection of packet loss but im also Dropping out of my VPN connection constantly, Very bad Latency on online games and browsing web is very slow (all of this was fine before)

2 - Yes i have Cable TV. Have not noticed any Degredation

3 - Yes contacted support and they took me through the usual things i.e. speed tests, log in as safe mode (with net support) etc They seemed to ignore the fact that im getting packet loss... No joy as they say i have a connection and all is well. An engineer can be called but as i work it is hard to be in when they can be here

4 - What have i done? Tried other machines, changed networking setup, changed network cards, disconnected TV to see if improves, Look on ntlworld.com for help (tried the TCP/IP fix typed into DOS - sorry cant remember exactly what it was)

5 - Im UK CB4 area, Using Windows XP Pro
Network:
I have a Linksys BEFSR41 router attached to the cable modem, that serves 2 machines in my house. I have also taken this router out the system to test connection (Direct connection from 1 PC to Cable Modem) with no joy. The Cable Modem is an ntl:home 100. I pay for a 2mb connection.

Have no hardware firewalls installed, have disabled windows firewall to check
