Re: Slow Speeds...

Just spoken to Cambridge CS.Having received the upgrade to 3mb line yesterday my net has been appaling.

" The cable modem software hasnt been configured to run 3mb speeds"

Unfortunatly from what i was told the upgrade to 3mb has caused issues with SACM and they will send a new cfg file to the modem when its available!

Hi.

I have notices slow speeds from this area but thought it was my router (which needs a power cycle every now and then)

Whereabouts in Northampton are you out of curiosity.

I am in Great Billing.

Yeah I think that is right. when I reboot my Surfboard CM and then check the CM log I get:

TimePriorityCodeMessage0503231552214-ErrorX501.35Unit Update Failed. 0503231552217-InformationF502.1Bridge Forwarding Enabled. 0503231552204-ErrorX501.28Unit Update - Not updating. This image is not for this platform. 0503231552207-InformationF502.2Bridge Forwarding Disabled. 0503231552207-InformationX500.0Attempting Unit Update 0503231552147-InformationF502.1Bridge Forwarding Enabled.

So it seems that they need a new 'update image' (config file?) before we get up to 3Megs. I am curently working consistently at about 2.2 Megs.

AFAIK that message means that there's no firmware upgrade for that modem type. Nothing to do with 3Mb.

Re: Slow Speeds...

Well I've been close to 2 Mb/s since I upgraded a couple of weeks ago but for the past couple of days I'm down to 111 Kb/s so somethings up!!! I'm in Swansea and getting the figures via Dan Elwells' broadband speedtest. I'd be interested to know if anyone else in my area has experienced the same deteriation in service.

Re: Slow Speeds...

I had been getting speeds around 60-120k/s from US sites till I ran tcpoptimizer. Getting full 3mb speeds from there now. Not sure if it would help here, thought I'd mention it anyway .

Thanks for the info Horace. As it happens rebooting the modem seems to have resolved the problem - for now
