Also the upgrade from 256k to 512k. Might be a good idea for a mod to make a news item to let all customers on 256k know about the upgrade.

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
How would one carry 10mbit over their current architecture? Would it just be EuroDOCSIS with a higher qam?

They don't use EuroDOCSIS at the moment - just DOCSIS. They use a 6MHz 64QAM carrier - 30Mbs

Some places they use a 256QAM carrier, 38Mbps after the esoteric overheads, some places still 64QAM, 27Mbps after the overheads.

On average you're probably talking around the thousand mark.

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
Surely youd never get full speed then? So a bit of a false economy

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
Certainly not impossible to get full speed. A lot depends on the usage patterns of the people you are sharing with though.

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
i dont think telewest are stupid enough to go ahead and announce a trial without thinking about upgrading current infastructure, after all it will only be a trial.....for now.

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
They may want to consider fixing the infrastructure issues first:
7 host-194-117-147-69.telewest.net (194.117.147.69) 2.077 ms 2.070 ms 2.087 ms
8 194.117.136.173 (194.117.136.173) 238.015 ms 237.984 ms 238.020 ms
9 194.117.136.137 (194.117.136.137) 237.283 ms 236.177 ms 235.592 ms
10 gat-edi-pos.telewest.net (194.117.136.10) 417.890 ms 260.740 ms 312.041 ms
11 * 172.18.18.42 (172.18.18.42) 239.362 ms *
Am sure they will do with all due haste!

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
Yep just as 'a bit' of the traceroute got through to the end, 2 bits didn't
Seems someone at BY has noticed this and traffic has been rerouted around the issue, or if core network congestion it's not present at 5:30am.
7 host-194-117-147-69.telewest.net (194.117.147.69) 2.954 ms 3.343 ms 199.252 ms
8 194.117.136.165 (194.117.136.165) 10.748 ms 10.816 ms 11.167 ms
9 194.117.136.170 (194.117.136.170) 10.922 ms 10.915 ms 10.688 ms
10 gat-bra-pos.telewest.net (194.117.136.90) 13.163 ms 12.959 ms 13.027 ms
11 172.18.18.42 (172.18.18.42) 13.324 ms * *
Nasty loss on the last hop there but could just be a symptom of the router being used

Re: Telewest To Trial 10Mbit H2 2005
i too am on telewest and although a 10mbps connection would be good, they do need to sort out there current network.
I live in newcastle and nearly every thursday, friday, saturday and sunday evening my ping goes up from 25 to 200 and odd
