Samsung STB Connectors

I've been hunting around (with little success) for information regarding the Samsung STBs, specifically the connections on it. The reason is that I've managed to get a swop out of my existing Pace box for a Samsung this coming Thursday (fingers and everything else crosssed!) to allow for the broadband speed increases. The pace box has two scart connections; one going direct to the TV and the other to my DVD recorder and I'd like to know if the Samsung has the same. If it has only one, I'd like to re-arrange the cabling on my existing set-up (using the DVD recorders pass-through facility) to make it easier for the installer to do the swop-over with the minimum of hassle. I've already discovered that the Samsungs use a staright-through ethernet cable whereas the Paces use a x-over so I've taken the precaution of fixing that already.

Also does anyone have a link to where I can see any pictures of what the Samsung boxes look like? As I can't be at home when the swop over is done I'd like to show my wife what the installer should be putting in so she can call me if anything look wrong. Yes I know it'll almost certainly be ok but I can't help being just a little cynical that; a) someone will actually turn up, and b) have the right box.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

John

Re: Samsung STB Connectors

The Samsung has two Scarts, an RJ45 (ethernet for if you get boradband via the STB), and a coaxial in and out (allows you to connect a terestrial arial).

Many have commented in other threads on the lack of phono outputs - for that you need a Scart breakout lead. If you currently use phono leads, pester the ntl enginerr nicely at the ime of installation to supply the breakout cable.

Re: Samsung STB Connectors

Good, exactly what I wanted to know-no need to mess around with with existing cabling then, should just be a straight swop-over.

Many thanks for everyone's help and advice.

ALDI are doing some computer products in their special buys starting next Thursday 17th March. One item is a scart lead set for £4.99. This is 1tem 13 on the list at http://uk.aldi.com/special_buys/index.html whichhas a scart convertor amongst other things. Worth a look.
