Email - "over the high water mark"??

Hi guys - a bit of a strange query here.

Just got home from work and turned on the computer. As usual first thing to do is check my email.

Amongst the emails I received one with the sender as "Admin" and a Subject as "ATTENTION: Your mailbox is over the high water mark, 75% based on amount stored!!".

When you highlight the line stating this information, I can see that the email contains the following text.

Quote:
Your mailbox is over the high water mark. Please delete some messages from your mailbox!
I have the funny feeling that it isnt from NTL and it is in fact some prat having a laugh!!

Anybody got any ideas on this, or has heard about anything similar??

James

Yep - that's the daft message the ntl software sends you when you have filled over 75% of your mailbox - it's usually because you have one (or more) e-mails with a large attachments.

Re: Email - "over the high water mark"??

This could be ntl email generated. Depends on how much is stored on the email servers for your account. It could even be a large email that has been sent to you waiting for you to download.

I'm not sure of the exact capacity of the ntl webspace but it's not huge. You can have a look at you webspace contents, rather than what is in your email client (i.e. outlook) by loggin in through the ntlwold site.

edit : doh, must type faster

Re: Email - "over the high water mark"??

Thanks guys. Must admit, a friend has sent an email with medium sized files attached (only one was just over 1mb).

I know I didnt expect anything more from NTL, but an email that contains just that text is begging to be deleted - could be spam or anything!! Perhaps they should start to put explanations on the email as to why the recipient is acually getting it!!??

NTL

I think NTL Mailbox is 2MB, or is it larger?

Re: Email - "over the high water mark"??

THis will explain everything

When collecting email, you may have an email from an @ntlworld.com address "Your mailbox is over the high watermark, 75% based on amount stored"Sometimes when recieving mails, a mail will be sent from @ntlworld.com email address stating

"Your mailbox is over the high watermark, 75% based on amount stored"

A customers mail box is 10 MB, this includes any emails in inbox, sent items, trash and any other folders the customer has created on the mail server.

If you log into an email account via webmail (www.ntlworld.com/webmail), this will show what emails are stored on the mail server for the person, generally if you are getting this error message you will find that the Sent Items or Trash folders will be quite full, delete these.

Re: Email - "over the high water mark"??

I've encountered problems with mail clients and removing emails from the server - they just don't do it properly. It varies - Outlook Express seems to be the worst. The client I'm using at the moment (The Bat!) although it removes most of the emails I specify (spam, distribution lists...), it still leaves the odd email on the server. All you can do is go in via webmail and clear out the mailbox
