Table background help

Hi all

I'm trying to design a website but I keep having problems with the backgrounds on table cells in IE. They just won't display at all - but in Firefox they display fine. I can start to see why web developers hate IE so much!

I'm designing this in Dreamweaver MX - my code is below ...

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<link href="stylesheets/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
</head>

<body>
<table width="1000" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#FFFFFF">
  <!--DWLayoutTable-->
  <tr background="assets/images/HeaderBg.gif" >
    <td height="77" colspan="3" valign="top" ><div align="left"><font color="#CCCCCC" size="7" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" >Test
        test test</font></div></td>
  </tr>
  <tr background="assets/images/SubHeaderBg.png">
    <td height="24" colspan="3" valign="top"><div align="right"><font color="#FFFFFF">gdfgfdgfdgdffdgdgdgdgdgfdgdfhjrewrtujykq2erytu4wtyhj</font></div></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td width="151" height="788" valign="top"><p>Home</p>
      <p>Links</p>
      <p>Blah</p>
      <p>Blah</p>
      <p>Blah</p></td>
    <td colspan="2" valign="top"><p>fghfghf</p>
      <p>Blah blah blah</p>
      <p>&nbsp;</p>
      <p>&nbsp;</p>
      <p>&nbsp; </p></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td height="25" colspan="2" valign="top">(C) 2005 all rights reserved</td>
    <td width="222">top of the page</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td height="0"></td>
    <td width="619"></td>
    <td></td>
  </tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
Anyway, how can I make it so that the background displays properly in IE - like the title boxes of Cable Forum - like the background on the post new thread screen.

I've attached screenies of what they look like in IE and Dreamweaver. The display in Firefox is the same as Dreamweaver, bar the guide lines down the side.

Thanks.

Re: Table background help

Perhaps not the best answer, but does 'View source' on the CF pages not help?

Re: Table background help

Try getting rid of the <tr backgound="..... statement and amend the <td line to include a reference to the background image instead.

Thank you very much! That fixed the problem.

Only snag is that Dreamweaver always writes it with with a <tr background so I'll have to keep on changing it if I change the background.

I did take a look at it but I think they used some sort of CSS to control the background colour. However, thanks for the tip though - it's helped me to learn how to do something else.
