NTLWORLD Email Problem
I linked outlook express to a secondary NTLWorld email account (attached to my primary account) last night. A year or so ago it worked fine. However now when i try to use it, its possible to send an email from the account to my hotmail account however when i try to reply to the email it always fails. Cant remember the reason, any ideas anyone? IT apeears that you can send mails but NTL wont let ther account receive mails.

Re: NTLWORLD Email Problem
Hi Gary.
If you think your email address is correct, it may be the case that ntl have expired your mailbox because you have not accessed it in a while.
Here, take a look at this extract from the use policy for ntlworld packages.
Quote:
9. Email & mailbox management
ntl will configure all ntlworld mailboxes, mail storage time and inactivity time limits to ensure efficient use of our servers, and optimum quality of service for ntlworld customers.
You are responsible for checking your email regularly and storing any emails you wish to keep. For so long as we provide the Internet and/or Interactive Services to you, any emails (whether read or unread) kept on our servers will automatically be deleted after 90 days. On termination of your Internet Services and/or Interactive Services for any reason, any emails (read or unread) kept on our servers may automatically be deleted without any liability to you.
If you do not access your email account for a period exceeding six months then ntl may suspend your email account. Your email account can be reactivated by visiting the Your Account https://autoreg.autoregister.net/cgi-bin/chgpwd section of our website and resetting your password, or by or by contacting Customer Services.

Not sure if it applies, but it may well help

i did go to my account last night to check that it was still there. I guess its worth a try to re save it. Just seems strange that i can use the account to send email but no one can send mail too that account it.

Ah yes, you can send email using any email address, as long as the IP address you are assigned matches the mail servers allowed list. It is possible to use anybodies email address as a sender, as most SMTP servers do not authenticate the email address being used, only the account username and password. As an example, I could send you an email using your email address, although of course I could not access your account because I do not know your password.
Spoofing the email address is the oldest trick in the book, and the reason why so much spam gets through, as you would hardly block emails coming from your own email address would you ?

Well, I tend to post on things I know a little about, and I've learned a lot from some very experienced network people and the like. I'll be honest, I've been a lurker as opposed to a poster for a long time, missing opportunities to help, so I took the plunge

1. Send email from NTLWorld to Hotmail using OE. Success
2. Reply to email in hotmail from within browser. Fail. The failure appears as an email in the hotmail account
