I can't help, but perhaps there are some suggestions in here?

Re: What speed should I expect from my wirless netowrk
hmmm not really, i tried changing the channel a few times no difference.. the speed seems to jump about a bit, as well.. goes from 24mbps to 54mbps stopping at places inbetween.
Im wondering if perhpas the transmission strength is to high. as I am almost sat ontop of my AP.. (6 foot line of sight)...

Could be the transmission strength, or simply the fact that you are in such close proximity to the AP.
I had problems with my setup, in the end these were solved by choosing the channel that was furthest away from the default setting. Might be worth trying this (if you haven't already) and trying to reduce the transmission strength a little.
Failing that I would try moving to another room to see if that helps at all.

the words 'disc write speed' come to mind. You are always best transmitting files to a defragged HD or a fresh partition on your fasted HD

Re: What speed should I expect from my wirless netowrk
hey thanks all for the advice.. it definatly want disk speed.. there both high speed drives..
I eventually had a thought (shocking i know) and realised that it could be caused by data colisions because the machine i am streaming from and the AP are on the same hub.. and yep when pulling data from the server, which is on a seperate switch to the AP no problem at all nice and speedy...
/wanders off to ebay to get new switch

It used to take about 15 mins for that size of file from bopdudes pc with a usb wireless dongle to my laptop with a pcmcia card, both running at 11mbs 802.11b.
If thats any help ?

For the mathematically-challenged that's about 0.5 Mbps - mmmm... very slow!
Compare this with a wired version that's up to about 60 Mbps:

Can you try using the wireless adapter against another WAP or use another adapter against your WAP?
