Exclamation Telewest drop Nickelodeon channels!!

Telewest have just in the last hour ceased broadcasting nickelodeon, nick jnr and nick toons on their platform!
nick were running ads throughout the day telling telewest customers to call tw to complain or to subscribe to sky or homechoice.

very sudden. news only emerged at lunchtime, and now the channels have gone!

quote from nickelodeon message boards:
Well, we really don't want to! We were talking to Telewest about a new contract between our companies, but couldn't agree on a deal that was fair to both of us.

If you're a Telewest viewer, ring them up and tell them what you think! Their number is 0845 142 0220.

If your parents would like to talk to another digital TV provider, so that you can keep watching Nick, then they can call Sky on 0870 242 9380, or Homechoice on 0800 092 4444.

Re: Telewest drop Nickelodeon channels!!

Dropping that channel line up doesn't sound like a good plan at all. What are Telewest thinking of?

Re: Telewest drop Nickelodeon channels!!

Does anyone else find the Nick site persuading kids to phone up Telewest and complain a little dubious? I can see Telewest really being pleased with the calls they have to field.

My 4 year old grandson would be devastated if there was no Nickelodeon.

Loads of cool stuff has been on Nickelodeon at some point or other. Like Rugrats or Fairly Odd Parents or Powerpuff Girls.

And why shouldn't kids complain? they are humans too, and they should be given rights as well. Kids always complain they are marginalised by grownups becaus either think they kids are too immature/stupid/young/whatever. That said I do think that Nikelodeon might be using that to squeeze more money out of the deal, but thats not illegal, or even immoral (in my mind away).

Which is why the Disney Channels (my 2 yr old likes Playhouse Disney), and CBeebies are fantastic. It amases me when we have Channel 5 on sometimes in the morning so he can see Roly (one of his faves) the number of adverts.

Yeah but this is about complaining that Nickelodeon has been dropped. I still think that even kids have the right to voice their opinions to Telewest about it.

Kids these days are nothing like the their 40 year old parents that are marginalising them at that age. 12 year olds are more like 16 year olds now.

Well I would imagine TW had their hand forced by Nick to do so. A big game of contract negotiation poker ended with OK then pull the channels, expecting TW to go we don't want to do that we'll agreee your terms.

So TW behaved as they should in this instance, were not bullied and dropped the chanels. I'm sure they will be back soon. It's in TWs interests to stop customers moving to sky, its in Nicks interest as 3/5ths of is better than 0.

It's also in Nicks interest to keep the pressure up on TW to show they have a good installed customer base of Nick viewers that want it back on the air.

And a valid complaint from a 12 year old is as good as one from a 40 year old in my opinion.

Re: Telewest drop Nickelodeon channels!!

My kids are really annoyed that the Nickelodeon channels have been dropped and I am annoyed that Telewest are ripping me off in this way. I signed up for a package that included these channels and they have now unilaterally deprived me of them without any notice.

In their monthly newsletters they are always quick to boast about adding new channels, even when they aren't really additional channels i.e. ITV3 replacing Granada plus or whatever it was. However, they have keep very quiet about getting rid of Nickelodeon and now done it in a sneaky and underhand way. To make matters worse, they are still advertising Nicktoons as part of the Essential package on their website! They're quick enough to remove the channel but can't be bothered to update their website to reflect it's removal - so are now advertising in a misleading manner.

I certainly will be complaining and if I don't get a satisfactory response will be off to Sky. I'm sick and tired of Telewest's poor offering: Service interruptions, television guides chopped off in mid sentence and non functioning interactive even on channels like BBC1 (did anyone manage to vote interactively on Sports Personality of the Year). I only went to Telewest because BT weren't providing Broadband in my area. Now they've upgraded the exchange there's no real reason for me to put up with Telewest's poor offering.
