Attachments Corrupted

Over recent weeks I've have begun to experience problems sending attachments.

I have tried sending things to myself at work to check it out. Word files will not open and photo files are corrupted, apart from the very top of the shot.

I am using a Mac running System 10.3.5 and use Mail for my email. I've got the mid range broadband through a set top box.

The problem occurs when I am using my .mac e-mail address. It doesn't happen when I use my NTL address.

A friend who also uses NTL says switching to a cable modem will eliminate the problem.

Is this right? Is it simply a question of asking? And how much do NTL charge for them?
