Tracert Analysis required

Playing online games i get periods of lag every few minutes every day i play

I want to know how it can be fixed

I was constantly pinging the server did a tracert to the server during some of this lag and attached the result

It happens after 7pm but it pops up at the most irritating times and i want it to stop before i move to another service

Its hop #2 which has an address of 172.30.119.254

Thanks

tom

Re: Tracert Analysis required

The OP doesn't really have enough information in it, doesn't have the constant pattern of prolonged loss that one normally sees from say a return path fault nor do we know the capabilities of the target server.

Really really really need at least traceroutes to a couple of other servers and most importantly line test from broadbandreports.

tracert www.bbc.co.uk

Tracing route to www.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.85]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms my.router [192.168.1.1]
2 9 ms 10 ms 9 ms 172.30.119.254

tracert www.yahoo.co.uk

Tracing route to www2.vip.ukl.yahoo.com [217.12.3.11]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms my.router [192.168.1.1]
2 12 ms 9 ms 9 ms 172.30.119.254

8 15 ms 15 ms 15 ms bas1.101.the.yahoo.com [217.12.0.233]
9 14 ms 15 ms 20 ms bas1.4.ukl.yahoo.com [217.12.0.141]
10 16 ms 15 ms 16 ms www.yahoo.co.uk [217.12.3.11]

Trace complete.

Line test results

http://www.broadbandreports.com/quality/nil/1466110

Generally its a very nice connection but from 7-10pm the pausing caused from non response of the 172.30.119.254 node makes it impossible to play online games successfully

thanks

Re: Tracert Analysis required

With regards to the ping test results you should expext ping times of ~90ms to any server in the US, its a long way away! but they seemed ok. Thats also the return path which uses different routes to your upstream path.

My hunch would be a possible upstream (to the or including the ubr) issue.

Try using the pathping command, it sends a few more pings and is a bit more thorough. Uk servers.

Ummm.

Wanna try finding an even older thread to resurrect while you're at it? This thread was 15 months old and the 15 months old part adds absolutely no value at all to current issues.

Any chance of a normal traceroute, and perhaps a ping -n 100 www.ntlworld.com. Pathping is a pain to read and misleading.

Could a moderator please split this and previous post off and lock the old thread to avoid confusion, thanks.

Why does age matter? It's a fault with he same symptons, if another user were to 'Reply' with the same problem you wouldnt suggest they create a new thread, would you?

Oly misleading to those who dont understand/cant read the information being provided. I suppose you would prefer the user to perform 100 pings to every server on the route?

Quote:

A pathping provides enough information to identify connectivity issues to all servers on the return path. 100 pings to a server is sufficient to identify a problem with it. It also allows you to identify issues with servers on the route and the target server. Pathping performs the same actions as tracert but better, instead of 3 ping statistics per route it does 100.

Quote:

I'm not confused, you obviously are. Perhaps you shouldnt reply with posts that dont lead towards a resoloution of tomcooper's problem and create your own treads yourself.

Tomcooper

I dont see an issue with the data you have provided. ntl often prevent their routers from replying to pings and the device at the secobd hop is an ntl router.

It looks like your connection (over the few minutes the pathping was performed) is fine.

I very rarely see ping times to web servers <12 and 20 is okay/good. If anything i would suggest an issue with route 3 beacue it lost 9 packets. (Did you sse that Ignition?) I have send a few ping s to that machine and had no problem but that isnt to say there isnt.

The sympton you describe is more likely to do with load or poor line performance. As the pathping data you have provided doesnt suggest any issues i you advise calling ntl when you experience the problem so they can look at ubr useage and line signal.

Mods, feel free to ban me for back-chat to Ignition. (although i sound big-headed) im happy not to be able to provide any further suport to the users of this forum.
