Broadband Medic

I was recently prompted to download the Braodband Medic as a replacement for the Correct Connect monitoring program, which I did so.

I am disturbed to find that when I start the medic, my Norton security advises me that this program is trying to send my all my ********* to NTL, including my banking *********.

Now what would NTL want with my *********?

Re: Broadband Medic

And, curiously enough, it has censured my thread by not allowing the word P-A-S-S-W-O-R-D

Re: Broadband Medic

I was not aware that passwords, had been added to the filters on this site.

Edit. obviously they have not, what did you type in to get ********* on your post

BTW. Welcome to Cable forum.

I doubt that BB Medic is sending your banking passwords to Ntl, more likely a problem with NAV.

I wouldn't use broadband medic. I don't install anything from an NTL CD on my computer.

I seriously doubt that BB Medic would do this (in fact I was on the trial so I know it doesn't).

I would not believe Norton if it told me the sky was blue without some evidence to back it up.

Then how come it has allowed you to enter password in that post.

Anyone else heard of Norton or BB Medic censoring words entered in a forum post window?

Re: Broadband Medic

I see no real need to have any of the ntl software installed on your pc, if your in the slightest bit pc savvy. Come to think of it, I wouldn't install norton if I was in the slightest bit savvy either..

Some one correct me if i'm wrong, are the ntl connections still routed through proxy servers, thus is it was being uploaded it would go through a proxy for the reqeust. Nortons may have just latched onto the proxy?

Thumbs down Re: Broadband Medic

I have just got off the phone after calling tech support, when a lady answered she had that sort of tone †œI donââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t want to help and I want to get home voiceÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šà ¬Ã‚Â if you know what I mean. The first thing she said "was do you have Broadband Medic installed answer" NO can you give me a good reason to have it installed? She then goes into the bit about how I could have an online chat to resolve the issue I have which will also take the pressure off the phone lines, She then asked me †œwhat do you know about computersââ‚ ¬Â this needed an honest answer †œenough to be dangerousââ‚ ¬Â was my reply and in answer to your other bit of advice Iâ₠™m a human person who likes to talk to people and I would get the same answer. (Which was zilch)

I then told her of my problem that a certain spam email is locking up my POP3 account with NTL and its been going on for a few weeks now, the other four accounts all work fine and as web mail was not working and I had tried to use telnet also with no luck, so I phoned you. At that moment the web mail popped up, one from CF and two spam. One was from a Frank Hall telling me about cheap Viagra and was a 4k file, but back to the lady from Tech support who then gives me some real good advise †œjust hit the remove me at the bottom of his emailÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šà ¬Ã‚Â she says, now this is two bits of bum information she has given me. Then she hits me with a real downer †œwe have never heard of spam email locking up POP3 accounts and NTL are unable to help with spam email, (donââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t we know that) what email client are you using she asks, now knowing what her next reply would be I said Outlook which I know you donââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t support, I was then just about to ask her if she used to work for the Health Service prior to working at Tech support but I said thanks for your time and closed our nice little chat. As web mail had popped up I deleted the offending email then opened Outlook and had a good laugh at the latest offering from DrAwesome but I think the one about hitting the remove me button will get a bigger laugh and is nearly as good as †œsorry sir we donââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t support NICs you can either connect your modem by USB or a Network cardââ‚ ¬Ã‚ this was told to me when I first started with a cable modem all those years ago. Where do they get these people?

Re: Broadband Medic

Goldoni, can you PM me your details (CM MAC will do)? I'll get this looked into. Sounds like the person you spoke to needs some retraining.

As for the Broadband Medic prompt at the beginning of the call, we're being told to say that at the beginning of every call at the moment - it's just something we've got to do.

You voluntarily installed Broadband Medic? You have my sympathies
Time to kick up a stink I think, I'm sure someone has the contact details to hand
