Slower download speeds

I have noticed my 600Kb service has deteorated from 570 to 520 or there abouts in the last fortnight. Has anyone else noticed it as well (in Romford area). I am not able to use the NTL dedicated speed tester that was on their home page, as it isn't there anymore. I have used a number of of others inc. Pitstop, ASDL.org etc. but there seems to be some discepency with these third party testers.
Would I be cynical in thinking that these third party testers show exceptionally slow speeds because they are sponsored by other ISP's and want to show NTL as poor. Or conversely NTL's dedicated one showing false high DL speeds, for obvious reasons.
What is the best, accurate and truthful DL tester. And what speeds do you 600 users get. Is traffic levels getting high and we are suffering, will it get worse?
