Re: Channel ReShuffle
thanks spiderplant for the numbers.
I noticed some intriguing gaps in the numbering. Which I would guess some.
Anybody else got some ideas for the gaps
108 BBC 5
113 Living TV 2 + 1
115 could not even hazzard a guess its between 2 & 3 maybe ITV 2 + 1
118 119 suppose could be + 1 for the other itv channels
122 SKY THREE
128 New UK entertainment channel
129 Drama + 1
130 131 New channel maybe with + 1
134 Paramount Comedy 3
136 Sci Fi + 1
139 Bravo 2
141 trouble + 1
Afterwards we get spreads of gaps to suggest space for new channels. With some existing to get + 1.
Certainly some good thought gone into the channel configuration a bit.

I have to wonder: Do channel providers really think that people are that petty that given two channels, one with two digits, one with three, that they would go to the two digit one purely because it's one less keypress?

Re: Channel ReShuffle
People aren't petty, it's just easier to remember a 2-digit number than a 3-digit one! And channel providers can be a paranoid lot!

Re: Channel ReShuffle
I think this reshuffling of channels is the most sensible thing NTL have done for years, even if it does mean another 2 hours rearranging my favourites.

Re: Channel ReShuffle
never thought about HD channels good pickup on these. I would assume these would be extra charge like sky.
I would assume some space is for the new channel 5 channels FIVE US and FIVE LIFE set for the october release.

Re: Channel ReShuffle
so does this reshuffle mean more channels? I bet I'll still be sitting there flicking away going 'there's nothing on telly!?'

Look on the bright side - there will be more channels with nothing on!

It should be only £10 per month if you have the Family Pack. Base and Select are probably going to be £15 per month for the HD PVR.
At the moment with Telewest you will get free installation of TVDrive when you keep your existing set top box in another room for an additional £5 a month. If you're an existing digital TV customer to swap out your existing standard box for TVDrive a £75 installation fee will apply. I don't know if the same will apply when NTL launch its HD PVR.

Re: Channel ReShuffle
I think it makes more sense that the channel numbers are being reshuffled so that both ex NTl and ex Telewest have the same TV platform!!
I know we were told a few weeks ago that some of the Telewest channels were changing to tie in with the NTL reshuffle and got a list of which ones were planned to change - there was also a couple of channels that were on the list that are actually not on the Telewest platform as yet so maybe they are going to be introduced or maybe it was an error...
it would make sense that they would also add the missing channels on each platform aswell, isnt NTL changing what channels are currently available in the 3 TV packages anyways so maybe once thats done and the reshuffle the missing channels will be added

The Bromley change is currently planned for the 27th. Several reasons:
- the CR3 rollout in London needs to be completed first (the CR1 favourites system has some odd behaviour when channels are renumbered/renamed).
- it spreads the load on the call centres. Despite the mailshot etc, you can bet plenty will ring up wanting to know where channel xyz has gone.
- it lessens the risk in case it all goes horribly wrong. We've tested the changes extensively, but you can never be certain.
- it's too much work to do both networks in one night.

I think he's implying that the first rule of TiVo ownership is you don't talk about TiVo...
