Christmas has always been celebrated by all UK councils. For 2 years Birmingham added other events at the time (starting before and finishing after the Christmas period) which did not detract from the festive celebration. Christmas banners were paraded about the city as normal.
Are you getting the message yet? Christmas was still Christmas in Birmingham for those 2 years. The only difference being was they also offered something for other faiths as well. If it was the political correctness that you're so obsessed about then they'd have ignored 'public outcry' and continued to call it 'Winterval' every year because, as I'm sure you know, "this country bends over backwards to accomodate foreigners" doesn't it?

There's no talking to you when you're like this.
everybody else knows what I am saying. and that I didn't say they wanted to cancel Christmas, only to include all cultures in that period with the word Winterval.

That will be the Community Cohesion route -
In which it is ment to provide opportunities for different people to come together, to mix and to form communities of commonalities.

Which is different from " they didn't want to cancel Christmas" - your post could be read as if they wanted to cancel it, but couldn't....
So perhap " everybody else" didn't know what you were saying.

"everybody else" doesn't include you.
Russ seems to think that Wintervalgate was to cancel Christmas. and because it still went ahead then it couldn't have ever happened and was a myth.

Nice to see your all-inclusive pronoun has exceptions.....
Also nice to see you defending a religious celebration - keep up the good work.

Nonsense, this is a story from over ten years ago, hardily being changed now is it. The name of the event was chosen to incorporate all festivals happening a the same time,. Christmas was featured heavily in the festival and there was no mention of using the term to reduce offence to non-Christians. Did you not read the article? It was from The Catholic Herald, if anyone has cause to complain they would, but they didn't find any, did they?

All the arguments in defence of this 'Winterval' have and always are, Christmas still went ahead, and they didn't cancel it though.
the point is we wouldn't let a council 'officials' cancel it anyway. they wanted to tone it down and bring bonfire night into the mix a bit so it wasn't just all about a Christian celebration on it's own.
