That's nonsense saying it is only £14 if you have the phone line. I'd still be paying £25 if I did have the phone. The phone is off no intrinsic value to me what so ever with VOIP and good mobile packages. So I would still be paying £25 for my broadband with a worthless unwanted not to be used telephone line that would be a waste of time even activating it. You just can't pretend the BB is cheaper by offering something which is of no value.

All they are doing is offering a service basically for free, it's up to the user if they take this out or not. If you don't want the service then you pay extra as you only have one service. Just like if i took TV with my broadband and phone line, i would get a bigger discount because i would have three services, and so on.

Yet you say BE brodaband is £17.50

I think that is very expensive when BE do 24Mb for £17.50 with a much faster upload and only 3 month contract.

So to be fair comparison you either have to say BB L is £14 (cheaper than BE) OR you have to include the BT line rental as part as the total cost of getting BE, which makes it £28.50 (more expensive than BB L either with or without a phonenline)

The ides of BE is appealing with VM's over the top STM and better upload on BE but there is one major drawback for me and likely many other. It is all ADSL and as such I would never get the headline speeds advertised.

Now if I lived next door to the exchange that would be a different matter but for the rest of use we have the choice of VM at the speed advertised but cut to a quarter if downloading large amounts. or ADSL that offers full speed all the time but what that speed is, is anyone's guess.

Personally I think VM have made a tactically sound move. They have intentionally placed their bottom BB package above that of basic ADSL. This gives the impression that VM will offer the best. In reality there are many factors but given that a vast number of users only use the internet for general brosing, e-mail and a bit of downloading they aren't likely to notice the difference between supplier A and B.

For me their is only one choice and that's VM. I would rather have the headline speeds when browsing and put up with the odd slowdown when downloading larger amounts that have a headline speed I never get

If I sign a "contract" or buy something I must be happy with the price I pay.

A week later the cost comes down - I don`t cry its not fair I want a refund, my contract torn up . Or I am not going to buy from you again. I can just see all the queues at ASDA for refunds because the price came down or its two for one. Prices change all the time. live with it guys. You win some you lose some

yeah if you're in the 12 month contract then you have no reason to moan but if like most customers you're outside of it and other people are getting better terms for a different price or whatever then you have every right to renegotiate or walk.

BB M will still usually show as £18
BB L will still usually show as £25

I would be careful generalising. I had 21Mbit down 2.5Mbit up ADSL so to say that ADSL can't do 16Mbit isn't true.

I would also be careful regarding full speed on VM, this is my XL service at the moment:

no your right, but for me that was the case, my adsl couldent even dl at 10mit withotu dropping like a yoyo and virgin media i was getting full 20mbit anytime of day or night using it

If you want to avoid getting stressed out:

Ignore what other people pay; other people don't matter! They're only useful if you can use them as a bargaining chip to negotiate a discount.

Ask yourself: Am I happy with what I get for what I pay? If not, can I get it better somewhere else?

I pay £25pm for L BB. So someone may get the same thing cheaper? Good for them. I'm happy that what I get is worth to ME what I pay for it. So why would I want to get upset about it?
