I always wonder... schools teach history, geography and religious education. Yet, they don't teach current affairs.
Now, being the grammar school boy that I am, politics is all very funny to us all. But I wonder, at the crappy ****-pot comprehensives that exist (linger like a dog's fart, in some cases; and I don't mean all comprehensives, I've been to a couple of very good ones), how many pupils know who or what the cabinet are? What the latest humanitarian disaster is? How the economy will shape up when they have parents' with no reasonable source of income in their old age?

I think i know what you mean. I never understand why to we learn so much about all the good bits of british history but never learn about the middle east and Israel, we are far more likely to be affected from that than we are from how many wives Kenny Henry had. WW2 Teaching seems to be very pro british and seems never to mention the help from north america and rebels in europe (french resistance for example) tis a joke

This is why there's a need for doing all three sciences at GCSE. The problem with some schools is that they opt to allow students to only do a third of each science, which means that their grounding is so grounded it's useless.

They should make English Language, Maths and at least Double Award science compulsory along with a foreign language.

Monkeys may be able to do it, but monkeys don't have Mickey D's!!

True - but, we still waste all this time on citizenship and other related targets setting.
|
We do? Schools have changed a lot in three years then.
And a useless blooming plank of one, in my opinion of course.

Yes, we used to talk about all that stuff ourselves anyway, along with last night's football and other stuff, never thought owt of it really.

I'm pleased to say I study at the home of Sir Issac.. I'll say no more (other than I spent over an hour reading this week's New Scientist in the library, opposite his monumental graffiti).

Woolsthorpe? All that and you can't spell his name...

Totally agree - they're beginning to take the pee, now.

We do, not that very many of the teachers take it seriously, of course. It's a load of tripe. Not as bad as the 'bread and butter pudding' STD slides, of course (I'll say no more ).

Well, yes, so do we. But a lot of people I've run into in 'other places' can barely string together a sentence, let alone make an ounce of sense!

I don't do history. Grantham, of course (most boring town of the year for two years running a while back - let's hope none of my teachers read this ).
(I'll add that Maggie Thatcher went to the counterpart girls' school, but thankfully the girls there today are a bit more to look at. Actually, they were an eyeful earlier... )

Aye, they're abunant in Nottinghamshire - surely you know that?!
Newton went to (something along the lines of) King Charles I Grammar School for Boys', Grantham (the first? I can't remember!). Anyway, it was a bit tedious for writing on exam papers.
Anyway...

Sick of Deer Park not taking Copy/Paste in these boxes. Anyway:
1. Yes... as I said, just LOOK in Nottingham, Mansfield or Newark. Chav spotting is so easy, decent person spotting becomes the challenge.
2. Woo... you should add yourself to that Wiki. Presume you're sixth form now?

1. It's almost scary, when you think about it.
2. Probably could! I just added a few paragraphs to it towards the end and edited "Now a school of over 800.." to "Now a school of over 900..". Now that's excitment!
(And, OT, I would've been sixth form - I shall explain via PM.. )
