@General Maximus @Skie - Why what is wrong with a 2.5gbs 3.0 USB to Ethernet Adapter Cable?

Please let me know? The reason I was going to was mainly because my GPU covers up the other 2 PCIe slots on my motherboard lol. So I would not be able to fit a 2.5gbs network card into my PC. So a 3.0 usb cable would be easier and better.

Additional latency, extra cpu cycles, dodgy firmware/software/drivers. It's probably okay, but choosing a USB dongle over the real thing is always a risk.

You could get a PCIe riser cable and jury rig some sort of home for a nic

I know I am being an absolute knob but it is USB 3.0 and ethernet adapter (not adapter cable). If you don't know these things you shouldn't be delving into them. Whenever you get USB conversions for things they never work well because windows sees a USB device which requires software to run it rather than a native adapter with its own settings. As Skie said, you need to do everything you can use a PCIe adapter, anything else and you are only asking for trouble. I would rather stay on 1gbit than try using a usb adapter. If a job is worth doing it is worth doing properly.

Sorry to be a dick.

What amazes me though is Why on earth are they still giving out HUB 4 of they have the HUB 5? Does not make any sense to me, surely it would be better to just send everyone the HUB 5 now?

So now I have to ring them up again and explain I need the HUB 5 so I can maximize my speeds and I will then just buy a PCIe 2.5gig card as well. I mean of course I want to max it and get the maximum I can get. I waited a long time for my postcode to enable the 1gbs. I was basically 1 of the last to get it enabled. Which just totally angered me. Then I find out my PC is not capable of reaching the max speeds.

So yeah thanks again all. Will ring them tomorrow and see if they can send me one at NO extra cost etc.
the age old story of not getting what you pay for. you'll need 2.5gbe nic on your pc and a hub5. you aint getting a hub5 from VM, believe me ive tried. just have to wait like the rest of us untill they go on release later this year.

then you can bet anyone on 50-600 new customers get it part of install but people on gig1 ya know the only ones who can really take advantage and should of really been supplied with something similar at the time will get slapped with a 30-50 quid install fee as the hub 4 is "good enough" lol
