There's a nice command line utility called hrPing that uses the Windows high resolution timer to get microsecond accuracy. Also has the ability to send ICMP at faster intervals.

Ah yes I understand this now following my in-depth research since I replied. Would you know if fibre optic broadband from a less distributed company like "Eclipse", would give me better pings/latency than fibre optic from virgin media? I already know virgin media is really bad for this area but would a less known company bring much better pings/latency?

Eclipse AFAIK use BT's network for fibre, so you'd have to be near a FTTC enabled exchange and cabinet.

Am I if I already have virgin media fibre optic? Or is that not the same, I know that BT Infinity isn't available in my area so I guess not?

No, two different networks i'm afraid.

Virgin have their own fibre backbone and run all their own cabinets the same way as BT do, only BT's network is open to other ISP's like Eclipse, Talk Talk, Sky etc etc, Virgin's isn't, thank god, because it would be even worse than it is now.

ADSL with fastpath is going to be the best bet for you with latency.

Does anyone think my pings/latency will improve/lower if I upgrade my current, 30MB Virgin Media Broadband to 100MB Virgin Media Broadband? Please, if anyone has done this before or has knowledge on the matter, please reply, my question still hasn't been answered , thanks.

It won't make a difference in all honesty. You will still be taking the same route through the network at exactly the same times, the only thing that will change is the amount of data you'll be able to pull through. I honestly don't think it will make a hell of a difference.

Right okay i'm stuck between this virgin media 20 ping network or the "Simply broadband" package from Orange as I don't want a cap on the amount of usage I use. Do you think orange with interleaving turned off, will be be able to achieve better ping's than 21-24 that I currently have?

All FTTC providers use the same fibre infrastructure - Openreach's - for the local loop. Most with the notable exception of two providers use BTw's backhaul network as well so are at BT's mercy for routing. The two that don't could potentially provide better or worse pings but everyone else will be the near enough the same.

I would find someone near you who is on BT and do a traceroute from their machines to a gaming server. That would give you the baseline of what to expect on BTw. BT aren't bad last I checked but certain LLU providers would be better.

No way of knowing without trying them out in your local area or speaking to someone who has.

I'm now able to test my friends connection within my area, it's Sky Broadband which came with his TV package, he has either a sky or BT phoneline. Is this the same as testing a BT connection? Please reply.

Yeah they should be relatively similar. Sky use their own equipment in the exchange, and BT's copper network to do the rest.
