What was the problem last time?... I don't think it's ever been completely fixed, just improved some what..
Now it's going through a very poor period again. Definitely feels like congestion/contention.

p.s. this being based on the fact that pings are perfect right now, at 1:30am?

Of course the other side of the coin is that at 1:30am most people are asleep so not using RF emitting appliances.

Don't think you're congested really, you've not that long been resegmented.

The problem last time was a very weird and near enough imperceptible RF noise problem. Was fixed but I don't think we ever got to the bottom of what the exact cause was.

Oohh.. well yeah it's a fair point that the source of the noise could have been turned off... Where abouts along the line was the RF noise being generated last time? I wonder if its a neighbour or something.. Ive tried turning off pretty much everything at home, cant seem to find anything there. Hope its not in the box outside, as we dont have the cable TV.. heh

I know this will sound a noobish stupid question ........ but what i have been wondering is ........ when we talk about UBR's would the Green Box in my street be my first UBR ? - or is that just a central connection point for my street which then travels to the first UBR ?

Just wondering so i then know if the first UBR on my tracerts is the green box in my street or somewhere else - thanks

I'm getting slow speeds but no major packet loss in Portsmouth (Copnor, PO5).

Actually, it looks like traffic shaping. I'm not saying it is, but only usenet and BitTorrent are majorly affected, HTTP is fairly quick.

if possible try multiple news providers.

bittorent is harder to judge since the nature of the protocol often is slow anyway.
