Crazy packet loss

Sorry for another thread on this, but whaaaaaaat is going on with NTL recently?

If it's not to my gateway, its to a lot of routers in NTL's network ... Most of them in the cosham area seem to be suffering from spouts of packet loss, and it's seriously affecting my connection :(

I've phoned up tech support twice now, and both times they told me there was work in the PO8 area (a large area, very much doubt affecting my particular UBR as he couldnt confirm that). I feel like i've been fobbed off twice, and they probably know there are issues.

Anyone in the cosham/portsmouth areas experiencing slowness as of the past few days/week? :(....

The slowing down and high pings are in most areas looking at complaints on these forums.

Anyone want to provide any evidence of the issues with Cosham and area please? :)

Horndean uBR 2:

--- 80.3.162.194 ping statistics ---
1000 packets transmitted, 1000 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 7.628/8.636/28.464/1.176 ms

Cosham t2cam1-b:

--- 80.3.161.146 ping statistics ---
1000 packets transmitted, 999 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 7.300/7.873/28.377/0.927 ms

Cosham t2core-b

--- 62.253.188.254 ping statistics ---
1000 packets transmitted, 1000 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 7.269/8.138/209.141/6.479 ms

Complaining without showing what the problem is doesn't really help ya chaps.

Re: Crazy packet loss

There was some work done on the uBR about a month ago .. This appeared to cure my issue, for a week.. now ping fluctuations are back.. i havent tested for loss extensively though. The proxies appear to be misbehaving as usual, or it could just be the problem has returned since the work. The dns issues as of late haven't helped matters ;)

I don't think pinging the uBR in my instance will prove anything, as the problem seems to lie between my house and the uBR. It's being handled way high up by NTL though, hopefully! :D

No probs here in Southsea with pings or PL, CSS is running fine.

And James Henry! You seem to know everything! =]

My problem appears to lay between me and the first UBR..

Also the packet loss appears to be an inbound problem, i get almost no packet loss outbound. Outbound and Inbound seem to use different routes too :S

Here is two screenshots, 1st one is a trace from my NTL line to my ADSL line showing no problems .... 2nd is my ADSL line tracing to my NTL line which is pretty bad. I ran the tests for quite some time to see if it improves but it did not, i only ran these screenshots for a few mins as a sample.

Screen 1- http://www.nano-computers.co.uk/stuf...ELLfrmNTL1.png

Screen 2- http://www.nano-computers.co.uk/stuf...ELLfrmADSL.png

Here is also a trace using the broadbandreports.com site.

http://www.dslreports.com/quality/nil/2045554

I have tried alot of things to isolate the problem but it deffiantly appears to me that it is a NTL issue, nothing in my home as i tried the modem on its own without a router, i tried the modem using the USB and Etherent, i removed the conditioning filters too ... amongst other things nothing fixes it.

Hope this helps.... thanks for the replys guys

BTW pinging does not really prove anything in my individual case .. i always get reports back saying no PL when pinging ... also doing traces from my NTL line proves nothing ... it all happens on inbound traffic.

You may want to hide all those email addresses in those screen shots.

I seem to be suffering packet loss described as an "unacceptable level" according to my BB speed test aswell.

I'm not up on what packet loss is all about. Any ideas what I should do?

I'm in the M23 area Manchester btw.

Thanks for the link but i have been there, .... read that - nothing of help for me there lol

Hopefully it will be of help to others

I am pretty much a good boy and do as much home work myself to solve things before i seek help on forums ...

Gaming is out of the question permanently right now due to this inbound packet loss, good job i have quit clanning before all this or i would have been way upset .... :(
